The Lodgepole pine, up to 80', can be found can be found from the Rocky Mts., Alaska to Colorado. Intense heat from a forest fire will melt the cones pitch to expose the seeds to generate new trees. In 1869 Myrtle wood like this was used as the railroad tie to complete the transcontinental railroad.
